I don’t think I have really paid attention to astrology as a thing, as a Christian, until a few weeks ago (at the time I wrote this article). Some things happened that interested me in knowing what astrology or zodiac sign is. Is it real? Are they accurate? Is it a sin? Should Christians even do astrology or believe in zodiac signs?
I know you want a straightforward answer to your questions but stay with me to the end. Stay with me.
Is Astrology Real? Can their Predictions Be Accurate?
Let me tell you how my curiosity all started. So, I have this favorite YouTuber I follow. This YouTuber has this show where she tries to match people by setting up a meeting between them, but the matches she had done at the time I wrote this article weren’t really successful. The people matched didn’t really think there could be more.
So, in the last episode I watched before I decided to write this blog post, she got an astrologer to affirm the compatibility of the two individuals she was setting up a date for.
Then it appeared that the two seemed compatible, as predicted by the astrologer. It also appeared that many things she said about them seemed to be true.
I concluded that astrology might be beyond the physical; it is spiritual.
Is it real? Yes, it is. Can their predictions be accurate? Yes, it can.
I remember speaking with my friend – Boma, who told me about how she dug a little deep into astrology a few years ago. She told me a lot about myself that could be revealed with my birth month and day, even more, if I knew my birth time.
She also talked about an astrologer she knows who has predicted several things that have come to pass.
Can astrology be accurate? Yes, they can.
Does that mean it is from God? No, it does not.
I am telling you this so that if you experience something, you are not shaken in your faith in Jesus Christ.
A minister of God – Tomi Arayomi, said something profound in a video I watched. He said the difference between a psychic and a prophet is the source.
Don’t be quick to affiliate them with God because their predictions are accurate. It does not mean their source is God.
Is Astrology a Sin? Can Christians Believe in Astrology or Zodiac Signs?
I believe your being here is a sign that you really would love to do what pleases the Lord.
A believer in the Lord Jesus Christ should not put his faith in astrology and zodiac signs. I know this is somewhat straightforward, but I will give you enough reasons why you should avoid being involved in astrology or believing in zodiac signs.
Why You Should Not Believe in Astrology and Zodiac Signs as a Christians?
It is easy to say that believers should not believe in these things, but there must be salient pillars for this conviction both biblically and logically.

Here are reasons you should not believe in astrology or zodiac signs:
1. There are pointers in the Bible that God detests astrology
Deuteronomy 4:19 says, “And when you look up to the sky and see the sun, moon and the stars – all the heavenly array – do not be enticed into bowing to them and worshipping the things the Lord your God has apportioned to all the nations under heavens.
Deuteronomy 18:10-14 says, “There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or daughter pass through the fire [as a sacrifice], one who uses divination and fortune-telling, one who practices witchcraft, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, or one who casts a charm or spell, or a medium, or a spiritist, or a necromancer [who seeks the dead]. For everyone who does these things are utterly repulsive to the Lord; and because of these detestable practices the Lord your God is driving them out before you. You shall be blameless (complete, perfect) before your Lord your God. For these nations which you shall dispossess, listen to those who practice witchcraft and to diviner and fortune-tellers, but as for you, the Lord your God has not allowed you to do so.
Leviticus 19:26 says, “do not practice divination or seek omen.”
There are more scriptures we can infer from that the Lord detests that His people put faith in these things.
You might want to say these things were ceremonial laws written to the people of Israel, which do not apply to us as believers of Christ. I will clarify the context of one of these scriptures in one of the other points to be discussed.
This point is just to highlight precise places where the scripture talked about practices related to astrology and how God detests them.
2. It will lead to idolatry
If there is anything we all agree with, we will agree that God detests idolatry according to one of the Ten Commandments that says, “you shall have no other god before me”.
Idolatry does not always mean you worship man-made gods. It might mean giving someone or something the place of God in your heart.
So, what we saw in Deuteronomy 4:19 up there in the first point, might not necessarily refer to sidelining God to believe and worship those things. It might mean you giving these God’s creations a place in your heart above God. The primary point we can draw from this verse is that God detests idolatry.
Can astrology or zodiac signs become an idol? Yes. We, humans, are obsessed with being assured about our futures. We don’t like the uncertainties and risks that come with decisions. We often find places to get validation and assurance about the future.
If you allow astrology to fill that space, it might just take a little time before you get addicted to finding validation in it, allowing it to lead you in decisions, and defining yourself through it.
Why do it at all if you don’t want it to take the place of God? God does not just want to be our God but also our Lord. We must be conscious of this.
And one thing we should know about God is that He values His relationship and fellowship with His children.
I don’t know if you have ever been in a romantic relationship. Let us look at this from the point of a romantic relationship. Say you are a man, and you have a partner. Of course, you are expected to spend quality time with your woman, and vice versa.
If your partner drives the attention, you ought to get to another man, and you get to know about it. How do you think you will feel?
Jealousy is the emotion you will feel if you are being honest. I will also feel the same way; almost every man will feel that way.
And in fact, you have the right to be jealous because of your relationship with her. You expect her to devote time and affection to you, not another man.
Now, let us bring it into context here. God has given us an identity as His children. Our relationship with God is sonship by His grace through our faith in Christ Jesus. God sees us as His sons and daughter, and we also should see Him as Father.
So, God wants to be top of our priority list. He wants to be the anchor of our life, guiding and directing our life.
Does turning to astrology and zodiac signs for guidance, direction, and meaning not infer giving it God’s place in your life?
3. Many zodiac signs’ traits are not congruent with the word of God and our identity as believers and children of God.
These are examples of what I mean.
- It is said that Aries can be selfish. But Jesus said that loving our neighbors as we love ourselves is the second greatest commandment. You’d agree that someone who cares about others is not all about themselves. They cannot be selfish.
- It is said that an Aquarius lacks empathy. This also negates the person of love, which we should exude as believers.
- It is said that a Capricorn has the trait of using people and dumping them when it seems like they have nothing more to offer. This is nothing close to the character of love.
More traits beyond these are not congruent with what God has called us and defined us.
Some people even give space, indulge in these toxic traits, and say, “I am Scorpio. That is how we do,” even when what they do is not godly and of good character.
Will you allow zodiac signs to define your realities as a believer of Christ? Will you allow astrology to define your future, not the word of God and His spirit?
Do you not believe in God’s plan for you? His thoughts towards you are of good, not of evil.
4. Why look to astrology when you can look to God?
God has given us the Holyspirit – the Spirit of God, who can reveal things to us about things God has purposed for us. He lives inside of us!
Why turn to astrology when you, as a believer, have the best gift of the Holyspirit?
5. Astrology is limited
Astrology has been in existence for a long time. I will draw out a scripture scenario that shows the astrologer’s limitations.
Let me tell the story. You might be familiar with the story.
King Nebuchadnezzar had a dream and was like, “you know what? Bring me all them magicians, enchanters, sorcerers, and astrologers.”
They brought them in as he demanded. He went on. “Yo! I had a dream, and I badly wanna know what it means.”
All of the astrologers were like, “Yeah! We’re up for that, King! Bring it on! Tell us the dream, and we’re gon’ tell you what it means. You dig?”
Nebuchadnezzar, with a straight face, was like, “Fam. Don’t be kidding me! If you do not tell me the dream I had and what it means. I’m gon’ cut you into pieces and destroy your houses.”
He continued, “if you can tell me, you’re all gon’ get gifts and honor.”
All of them were like, “no, no, no. Don’t do this. Just tell us the dream, please.”
Nebuchadnezzar said, “I know you tryna buy time, and you are then gonna tell me some nonsense! No, I ain’t taking that. Tell me the dream now, and then I can be assured you can interpret it.”
And they were like, “this has never happened before. And it cannot be done.”
Nebuchadnezzar got angry and ordered the execution of these guys and all the wise men in the land.
Daniel inquired why there was such a decree. Once he knew about it, he went to the king to seek time so he could interpret his dream.
Daniel and his friends sought the Lord and whoof! God showed them! This is huge. Just think about it!
I like how Daniel answered the king when he asked if he could reveal what he saw in his dream and interpret it.
I am just trying to imagine how he said this. It almost seems like he was bragging about God’s limitless power.
He was like, “for real! Nobody can really do this thing you demanded. No astrologer, magician, or whatsoever can do it! But you know what? We got God who knows all things. And He showed me….”
The power of astrology is limited! Why put faith in it when you have God who is limitless?
(Note: The dramatic enunciation of this story is mine, lol. But the context is the same as the original. You can read up on Daniel’s chapter 2.)
Is Astrology a Sin – Final Words
Put your faith solely in God, not his creation. He can guide, lead and direct you. He is the author of your life, and you can be sure that you will not go amiss in Him. He defined you! The reality of your realities in Christ is way beautiful beyond what zodiac signs can say about you. I hope this blog post helped youon your question, “is astrology a sin?”
