How To Build An Intimate Relationship With God

Published by Victor O'loore on

Have you ever wondered why God created man? Have you? The Bible recorded that God created man in HIS own image! 🤔 Why did God have to create man in His image? He wanted to have communion and fellowship with Him. In other words, God created us to have a relationship with Him. So I am pushing this question to you, do you have an intimate relationship with God?

What Does It Mean To Have an Intimate Relationship With God?

So what does it mean to have an intimate relationship with God. I will be making this as simple as possible for us to understand. Let’s look at it from the light of our relationships. Before we can boldly say we have an intimate relationship with someone, we must know them, talk with them in regular intervals depending on the intimacy, etc.

  • You must know HIM

You can’t tell anyone you have a close relationship with a total stranger. No! We know it doesn’t work like that. So before you can say, “Oh yeah! I got an intimate relationship with God”. You must know HIM. How do I get to know HIM? You’ll find out soon.

  • Continuous fellowship:

Before an intimate relationship can be developed between two individuals, they must have been spending time together and doing things together. They talk, share things with each other.

The same goes for building relationship with God. You fellowship with him continuously. A relationship can’t hold without communication. This means you must be able to talk with the Father and you must be able to hear Him to claim a sound relationship with HIM.

A relationship can be only be doing good when the two parties are making efforts to make it work out. God has done his own part, all that’s just needed is you do yours.

GOD was so close to Abraham that HE said “Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do”. Do you feel the intimacy?

But alot came into place before this, it involved so much of Abraham’s yielding.

I want you to have a picture of what having a relationship with God means. I think you got what it means to have an intimate relationship God

How To Build An Intimate Relationship with God

So we understand what it means to build an intimate relationship with God, so let’s get to see how we can build our relationship with God into an intimate one.

  • Get the lost fellowship restored:

How to build an intimate relationship with God

The initial plan of God for man is fellowship with man. Things went bad, fellowship got lost. We thank God for His mercy who sent His Son to reconcile us back to a deep fellowship with Him. The grace is  still very much open to you.

Before you can get to have a relationship with God, you must get through to Him. The only way is through His Son, Jesus Christ. You cannot build a relationship with an individual you have not met.

How to build a relationship with God

  • Talk to God in prayers:

Talk to God, you should be free to tell Him anything  I mean anything. It’s just so funny how we demarcate the part of our lives we want God in. No! You don’t do that! He’s interested in all of you. Oh that man who really hurt you so bad, tell God. He’ll ease the pain. You have issues with a job at hand? Tell Him.

Trust Him, He is ready to listen to you anywhere and anytime. It’s a bad one when you hear some christians say “I hope God is listening to me”.  God’s in you as long you are redeemed through His Son, Jesus Christ. You don’t want to talk someone who is not hearing you, but oh yeah! God’s listening.

Don’t be restricted in terms of prayers.  Prayer is a form of communication between God and man. Pray without season. To build an intimate relationship with God, you should talk to Him freely, as friend to friend.

it’s just like you having a best friend who you can tell anything you are facing at any point in time. The most interesting thing is, God is much readily available for us all. This is possible by the Spirit of God in us.

Build a relationship with God

  • Study and meditate on the word of God and other christian books:

We must not joke with the study of the word of God, you should have a daily routine by which you study the word of God and follow it.

The word of God opens our ears to hear Him. It won’t be good and effective  if a relationship is one-sided. So don’t just keep talking without developing a listening ear for God.

Give in to meditation on the word of God. Get out of tons of distraction going on out in your environment. Pick up good and healthy christian books, study them. They can drive you more in your chase of God.

  • Fellowship with other believers:

Studying the word of God with other believers will open your eyes to a deeper revelation of who God is. Seeing people burning with passion for God around you gives you some sort of sharpening to keep chasing.

Hebrews 10:25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

Proverbs 27:17 Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.

  • Consistency:

Your consistency matters so much to God. You shouldn’t do one month in and one month out. Can you compare a friend who spends just a day with you monthly to a friend who is with you at least an hour a day? No! You definitely can not compare the two. The one who comes daily will have gained a whole lot of your trust as a friend, you’ll share the deepest secrets with each other.

This applies to God too. The more you are consistent with Him, the more He reveals Himself to you in new dimensions and bigger revelation. Your consistency with Him will reflect on your attitude and character as a christian. Stay consistent!

Genesis 18:17 And the Lord said, Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do;

You can imagine how deep and intimate the relationship between God and Abraham was so deep. God so much want you to have a relationship with Him, a deep and intIntim. Will you give Him a chance? Start building your relationship with God.

Stay blessed.

Great advice! I agree that we should have continuous fellowship with God, which I am aiming to do better in my own walk with God.

Obedience is missing in the list mentioned above. This is the most important aspect of having a fellowship with Jesus. How much ever time you spend with God or pray or have fellowship with other believers, if you don’t obey what is written in Bible it is impossible to have Jesus as a friend. Jesus is friend only to those who obey Him( John 15:14). He is not a friend of sinners though He is willing to be a friend of a repent, ex-sinner. Jesus doesn’t want to be the friend of someone who is in sin and who wants… Read more »
