Does God Answer Prayers or Questions?

Does God Answer Prayers or Questions

Are you in a situation where you feel Good doesn’t answer prayers? Do you have a question you have been asking from God and there seems to be no reply?

It also seems that God chooses who to answer, and you feel you are on the side HE chooses not to answer. Are you the only one who has ever been in the situation of feeling that God doesn’t answer questions or prayers?

I was once in a critical situation where I asked God a question and guidance on something but I never received an answer. It was very frustrating, that I was angry at God. I even decided that I will not pray either will I thank him. I thought to myself, what is the importance of being a Christian if I don’t receive answers to my questions and prayers?

The first and the most important thing you need to know is that our God is a living God. HE is not dead. So, if HE is alive, we can communicate with him. This begot the question of why do some receive answers to their questions while others do not receive answers to their prayers.

Obstacles to Prayers Being Answered.

  • Are you connected with God?

2 Timothy 2:19

“Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his? And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.”

The Lord knows those that are His, so the first thing we should know is that for God to answer our prayers or questions. We have to be His children. You have to believe in the birth, death, and resurrection of His Son Jesus Christ for you to be saved and become a child of God.

John 1:12

“But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:”

Why is it so important that you need to be a child of God before you hear from him?

Your connection with him is a very important factor. No matter how strict a father is, he will listen to his child and try to the best of his ability to provide for his son. As you can see in the book of Luke, you can ask from God and receive from Him. So for us to receive answers to our question we need to stay connected to him.

St. Luke 11:9

“And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you”

St. Luke 11:10-11

“For everyone that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent?”

  • Sin

Isaiah 59:1-2

“Behold, the LORD’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear. But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you, that he will not hear”

As stated in Isaiah, sin can be a hindrance for God to do things in our lives. To live without sin and be right with God, we need to be connected with God. It’s only in Him we can live holy.

For you to effectively receive answers to your prayers and questions, you need to do away with sin. As much as God’s given us the grace to live over sin, we must be intentional living out the life of Holiness in us through the Holy Spirit.

I remember a particular friend of mine who often said that sin is the food he must eat because it is sweet. Indeed sin is very sweet. I mean who doesn’t want to steal, who doesn’t want to please his body, who doesn’t want to behave as he/she pleases, who doesn’t want to have money by all means? But we must remember that the end thereof is nothing to desire.

Let’s take a good example of a person who indulged in sin. Samson was a man endowed with great strength from God, he uprooted the gate of an entire city. I mean do you know how big the gate of a city can be and how strong? Despite that, he uprooted it. Samson, a man with great destiny and power but in the end he began to indulge in sin, things did not turn out well.

So sin breaks the connection between God and man. If you have by any means sinned against God, don’t delay asking God for forgiveness He’s ready to forgive you.

Does God Answer Prayers

How Does God Answer our Questions or Prayers?

As I said at the beginning, I was in a critical situation and it seemed I didn’t receive an answer but the problem was I did not realize the manner and the way God was speaking to me. Many times God speaks to us and we don’t know it. We must know the way He speaks to us so we can know when He answers.

  • Still small voice

1 Kings:19:11-13

“And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake: And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice. And it was so, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entering in of the cave. And, behold, there came a voice unto him, and said, What doest thou here, Elijah?”

As I said at the beginning, God is not a man, He does things in ways that may not seem logical to us. Often when we ask questions, we expect the answers in a clear and loud manner but God especially does his things the way He chooses.

As read in the passage, there was a strong wind but it was not the answer of God. There was an earthquake but it wasn’t from God, after the earthquake was a fire but God wasn’t in the fire too.

The distinctive feature of every one of this element is that they make so much noise that you cannot help but listen to them and after that was the still small voice which God was present in. Many of us live in a noisy environment, a place where it is only what seems loudest catches our attention.

For you to hear from God, and get your questions answered, you need to go to a quiet place to listen to Him. Let your heart be still. You must learn to shut out every distraction and noise to hear from God.

This also emphasizes the importance of our prayer room, our secret place in God. As Christians, we must have a secret place, where we can speak to God and receive answers from him, where we can pour out our heart and pain and get healed.

You must be sensitive to receive from God so that when He communicates you will know. The more you listen to Him, the more you get used to His voice.

  • Through the scripture

Another way God answers our question is through the scripture, the word of God. The Bible, the word of God is also a means of communication with which God speaks and answers our questions.

I was once drawn to a particular Bible passage every time I opened my Bible. I was always dreaming of the passage. It felt very strange for me but I later realized that it was the answer to a certain question of mine.

The scripture contains countless life experiences of servants of God, saints, apostles, prophet, teachers, and others used by God. God can use their stories to speak to us

How can any part of the scripture answer any questions we ask? As I said above, when we are led towards a certain scripture, we are meant to learn from the experience of the characters.

I once asked a question from God on the reasons why humans were created and why there was so much suffering in the world. I was led to the book of Genesis to the story of creation and the sin of Adam and Eve where I learned the answer to my question. So, God can answer our questions through the scripture.

  • Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit is the third person in The Trinity. The three are one and they all have their place in the life of a believer. The Holy Spirit is the closest one to us. He’s a gift to every believer.

John 14:16

“And I will pray for the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever;”

Acts 2:17

“And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams.”

The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God sent to earth after the death of Jesus to guide, direct, and help Christians in the journey of life. Only if we can give expression to the Spirit of God in us, be sensitive and not grieve the Holy Spirit.

Holy Spirit is there to help us in times of need. God can impress things on our hearts through the Holy Spirit. Many times, it will just be a knowing. You just know it. Holy Spirit communicates to us in many ways. God speaks to us through His Spirit in us in the still small voice as stated earlier.

Does God Answer Questions

Reasons Why We Think God Doesn’t or Wont Answer our Questions or Prayers.

  • Lack of trust:

Not trusting God builds a barricade or wall between you and God. it disturbs your receiving from Him.

Psalms 62:8

“Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah.”

St. Luke 11:9

“And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.”

James 1:6-7

“But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord”

  • We expect God to communicate to us a particular way:

Many of us want God to just God in a grand way, probably HE will just speak to us so audibly “My Son ….” Though God can speak to anyone audibly, we cannot choose the way we want God to speak to us. A lot of us want God to reach us in grand manners like speaking to us audibly, dreams, or vision.

We must know that God chooses the way He speaks to us. We just need to be sensitive to be able to sense when God’s speaking to you.

  • We are affected by what the society and environment say:

Sometimes the voice from the environment, family, friends so pressurize us that even if we heard from God. It seems like we are alone. I want you to know that it is better we get the approval of God rather than men’s approval.

So if you are asking God a question and all HE is saying is “Yes” and the voice of your environment and the society says “No”, stick to what God says. It may be hard but rely on God for strength.

  • You cannot wait on God:

You need to be able to wait on God for whatever you are praying for. Persist. Don’t rush it. I know it can be pretty hard to keep waiting and in this generation, everyone’s rushing.

You know what? Just wait on God. God may be saying “It’s not yet time” and you want it now. Why not wait?

  • You are a visitor:

You’ve not built a relationship with God to the extent that you’d know that even in His silence, He is communicating. Are you just the type that prays for something, once you get it you never come to the presence of God again?

You need to build a relationship with God. Trusting Him will be easier, hearing Him will be easier when you have a relationship with Him.

God wants a relationship with you, He loves you so much. God answers heartfelt prayers and questions. I hope your questions have been answered.
Be an addict of the Word of God and give yourself to prayer. God wants a more personal relationship with you. He wants you to be able to hear Him. God bless you!
