Is Wet Dream or Nocturnal Emission a Sin? [Biblical Take]

Nocturnal emission or wet dreams are occurrences, common among teenagers, but not limited to teenagers alone.

There are days one might feel guilty because of wet dreams because it feels unusual. You just wake up to find sp3rm on your clothes.

You probably have been experiencing this, and feeling guilty about the whole thing.

Perhaps this made you want to know if having wet dreams is sinful.

What are Wet Dreams?

I know you already know what they mean. It simply means ej@cul@ting during sleep.

This occurrence can happen to teens and adults, both male and female.

The major reason why young people become guilty when they have wet dreams is because they probably think they caused it.

Or they feel dirty because of that.

Is Wet Dreams a Sin?

Having wet dream is not a sin. Just like digestion and defecation is not a sin, Having wet dreams is not a sin.

Wet dreams are physiological, and most importantly not what you can personally control.

You can’t just say, “Oh, today I am going to have wet dreams.”

Is Nocturnal Emission a Sin?

Nocturnal emission is the same as wet dreams, and having nocturnal emission is not a sin. Don’t let guilt eat you up over this.

Most people in the world have experienced wet dreams or nocturnal emission. It’s not a sinful experience.

What Does the Bible Say About Wet Dreams?

Yes, the Bible mentioned wet dreams and nocturnal emission, but not exactly in the way that you think.

Let us see what it says about it in Deuteronomy 23: 9-10.

“When you are encamped against your enemies, keep away from everything impure. If one of your men is unclean because of a nocturnal emission, he is to go outside the camp and stay there.”

No, this does not mean that a wet dream is a sin to the Lord.

You have to understand the context of this bible text for the right application to this situation.

In the context of this bible text, uncleanness does not mean “sin.”

There are several other things that can make an individual unclean according to the laws God gave Israel.

And they include having some type of skin disease, eating unclean animals, coming in touch with corpses, etc.

This doesn’t mean that someone with some sort of skin disease is indefinitely sinning against the Lord.

Besides, these are laws specific to Israel, according to the covenant of God with them.

And what Jesus came to do was to free us from the bondage and weight of the law and sin.

You must understand that wet dream is not a sin

Why You Should Not Bother If Wet Dreams are a Sin?

Here are reasons why you should not bother about your wet dreams:

1. Wet dream is a physiological process and you can’t control it

I mentioned earlier that wet dreams are physiological.

It is a body function thing, probably more like a coping mechanism.

When I say it is physiological, you can’t control it just like you can’t control how you digest your food.

All you do is just eat, and then your body digests the food. You are not in any way controlling the digestion of the food.

We can liken this to how wet dreams are, too.

But there are things that can possibly influence wet dreams, even though we can’t control them.

I am going to talk about them later in this blog post.

2. It is all normal

You are just normal if you are having wet dreams. You should not be worried or feel guilty about it as a Christian.

This does not mean that if you are not having wet dreams you should be worried.

Some people may have it just once in a while, others may have it frequently.

And some do not have it at all. It is all normal.

Things That Can Influence You Having Wet Dreams

Here are things that can influence wet dreams:

1. Watching p%rn

Watching p*rn late in the night can lead to having wet dreams in the night.

As a Christian, you should not indulge in watching p*rn.

It can fuel your fleshly and sinful desires and also affect your mind.

So, it is not healthy for you as a believer. Delight in studying the Bible, praying, and fellowshipping with other believers

2. Build-up of testosterone

If you are an $3xually active adult, and you stay away from $3x for a long while, you might have wet dreams.

If you have been active before but decided to hop on the s3xual purity journey as a single, you should not stop because you are having wet dreams.

It is physiologically normal to have those wet dreams.

If you are married but had reasons to stop having $3x, then you might as well just try to resume your $3xual duties with your wife or husband.

But if you are not married, wait till you get married.

If you think you can’t wait for too long, you can get married, if you are already courting someone.

3. Testosterone increase in teens

There is a surge of testosterone during puberty, and this can lead to teens having wet dreams.

This is pretty much physiological and normal.

4. Sleeping on your stomach

Sleeping on your stomach is not what influences wet dreams directly.

When you sleep on your stomach, you might unintentionally stimulate your genit@ls during sleep leading to ej@culation.

You might just decide to sleep on your back or side.

Having Wet Dreams is Not a Sin — What You Must Know

Now that you aware of the fact that wet dreams are not sinful, but a body or physiological process, I want to say somethings that you need to know.

I can not call them misconceptions exactly, but I would like you to know them.

1. Don’t feel guilty if you wake up to discover that you experienced wet dreams or nocturnal emission

There is a way the devil can make use of the innocence of your mind to play guilt games on you.

You had wet dreams, your mind can make you feel guilty about this when you had absolutely no control over this process.

Don’t feel bad or guilty that you had wet dreams or nocturnal emission. It is not exactly in your power to control it

2. Wet dreams is not the same as m@sturbation

Sometimes when you experience wet dreams, situations can make it feel like m@sturb@tion but there is no way you will m@sturb@te and your will won’t be involved.

So, if you are m@sturb@te, you will know what you are doing, and that that is what you are doing.

How to Stop Wet Dreams as a Christian?

Now, even though wet dreams or nocturnal emission is a physiological process or a normal body process, many of us would want it to stop as a Christians so it does not affect us in the mind.

But I must let you know that you can not exactly stop this process, but you can do something to reduce the probability or possibilities of it happening.

1. Be careful what you watch and what you think of

The things you watch, read or see, which can affect the things you think about can influence the rate of wet dreams.

As a believer, we must live a consecrated life where we do things that we are sure pleases God.

Our lives must be like a sweet smelling savor to the Lord, that pleases the Lord, always. This must be our goal.

And now, this boils down to the things we engage with our eyes, ears and minds.

2. Choose another sleeping position besides sleeping on your stomach

Sleeping on the stomach has been claimed to increase the chances of having wet dreams or nocturnal emission.
So, if you can change this sleeping position, then you should.

Will Everyone Have Wet Dreams?

The sincere truth is that not everyone will experience wet dreams.

Some will not experience wet dreams. Some may experience a little, while others experience it more often.

Wet Dreams are Not The Same as Having $*x in the Dream

I need to make this balance.

Sometimes when you have wet dreams, it appears as though you had an accompanying dream.

But there is another reality that people actually have $*x in the dream.

This might not just be some mind stuff thing or random wet dream stuff. It might actually be spiritual warfare.

This is not to scare you, at all. But only to let you know this. You have the victory already by the blood of the Lamb.

If you are having $*xual dreams or $*x in the dream, you should speak to your Pastor or someone that is trustworthy when it comes to spiritual matters.

Just to let you know once again. Wet dreams are not the same as having $*x in the dream.

That you are having wet dreams does not mean that you are having $*x in the dream.

Before you go

I hope your questions about wet dreams being a sin or not, have been answered. I am looking forward to your comments. God bless you.
