Are you asking yourself questions like, “what does God say about me?”, “How does God see me?”, “who does God say I am?”, etc.
This is for you!
Many people battle with identity crises and low self-esteem. They simply do not know who they are and who God has called them. So, they allow the devil to lie to them about who they are not and call them who they are not. Who does God say I am?
Some people allow what people say to form opinions about who they are in their hearts. Some people play games online in order to form an opinion about themselves.
As a Child of God, never should you get to a point where what people are saying matters more than what God is saying about you.
The only true scale by which you can measure who you are and know who you are is the word of God. If you want to know who you are in light of God’s perspective, spend more time soaking yourself in God’s word. Study and meditate on the Scriptures and allow the Holy Spirit to illuminate and reveal the word to you.
Therefore, I will be treating some of the awesome things God said about us in His Word in his article. Be relaxed. Feel comfortable and let’s journey together.
Who Does God Say I Am?
Here are some of the good things that God has said about you. Stick with me.
- You are a child of God:
John 1:12-13 says, “Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God- children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God”.
If you believe in Christ and confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, you are a child of God. Yes! You are a child of God and you belong to Christ.
1 Corinthians 3:23 says, “You are of Christ and Christ is of God”.
Is that not good news?
Since you belong to Christ, He cares about you. He knows all you are passing through. He is ever interested in you and all that concerns you. People may get tired of you talking to them but God is never tired. He wants to hear from you.
Acts 17:28 also says, “For in Him we live and move and have our being; as even some of your [own] poets have said, For we are also His offspring”.
Some people are privileged to enjoy that fatherly care from their earthly fathers. They have a close relationship with their father. Imagine you have that kind of relationship with the King of Kings. Isn’t that beautiful?
Even if you didn’t enjoy that care from your earthly father, the heavenly father is saying I am your father. That father you never once had. It’s indeed a privilege to be the child of the greatest in the universe; the one that created the universe. You have a father that owns everything and has everything. Everything belongs to Him.
Psalm 24:1 says, “The earth is the LORD’s and everything in it, the world and all who live in it”. So, there’s nothing you cannot get from Him. Isn’t that beautiful?
There are Kings and rulers. There are bosses and there is a king that watches and rules over them all. You are the daughter/son of that king. Isn’t that heartwarming?
In case, you have not believed in Christ and confessed that He is Lord and accepted Him to be your Lord. You can do that right now and receive the honor and privilege to join the family of God.
If you have given your life to Christ but you went back and your relationship with the Father has not been good, you can go back to God. Like the father of the Prodigal son in the parable, God is waiting for you. He is saying you have gone for too long. Come back home.
So, next time you look into the mirror, say to yourself, I am a child of God because really, you are!
- You are an overcomer:
1 john 4:4 says, “You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world”.
Remember the first point we treated was that we are children of God. Now, we are overcomers. Why? The God that lives in us is greater than he that is in the world. (Bible reference that God lives in us).
So, whatever problem, challenge, difficulty, distraction, etc. are in the world you have overcome them all because God lives in you.
I write to you, fathers because you have known him who is from the beginning. I write to you, young men because you are strong, and the word of God lives in you, and you have overcome the evil one. (1 John 2:14).
God did not promise us challenge-free life but He assured us of one thing- victory! God has given you victory over all the challenges you are facing now. Just believe and you will see that God is true to his word. The word of God is flawless.
So, if you have parents who are not satisfied with you being a Christian, your friends have left you because they feel your own is too much, your parents are struggling to take care of you, you are struggling academically despite all your efforts, be of good cheer. It will be settled. Talk to Jesus about it. He is always ready to listen.
If you are in need of true and good friends, tell Jesus about it and He will grant you your heart’s desire. I am a witness to that. So, tell God about it. I understand your parents argue at every point in time and you are not happy about it but have you told Jesus about it? Tell Him about it from a standpoint of victory. Your challenge will be a testimony.
Therefore, next time everyone is saying negative things, giving you 1000 reasons something should not work out, and telling you why there is no solution for a problem, be calm and patient. You have got the victory!
John16:33 says, “I’ve told you all this so that trusting me, you will be unshakable and assured, deeply at peace. In this godless world, you will continue to experience difficulties. But take heart! I’ve conquered the world.”
- You are the temple of the Lord:
God lives in you. You have the Holy Spirit in you.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 says, “Do you not know that your body is the temple (the very sanctuary) of the Holy Spirit Who lives within you, whom you have received [as a Gift] from God? You are not your own, you were bought with a price [purchased with a preciousness and paid for, made His own]. So then, honor God and bring glory to Him in your body. (AMP)
Honoring God through your body is a way of showing that you love God. Royal breeds do not live anyhow. They do not talk anyhow nor do they go to any place anyhow. They understand who they are and so they do not even dress anyhow. They are cautious. How much more you that is carrying the living God inside of you. How much more you that is polished according to the similitude of a palace.
Therefore, even in your dressing, let Christ be seen. You do not have to dress shabbily. You should dress gorgeously and modestly like the Prince and Princess that you are.
Also, you should take care of yourself. Your health is important. Remember it is God’s temple. God lives in it. So, you want to ensure that you remain healthy and keep your body clean. Eat well, sleep well, and drink water often. You need to remain healthy and look beautiful and handsome. Good sleep and diet should be able to help with that.
You should flee from sexual immorality. God is saying that He lives in you so you should endeavor to keep your body for Him. Remember you are a Prince and Princess. You are a royal child. You should live right.
The Bible says, “Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ himself? Shall I then take the members of Christ and unite them with a prostitute? Never!” 1 Corinthians 6:15.
I believe you want to do things that will bring glory to God and make Him happy. Therefore, flee from sexual immorality. God detests it. Whatever will bring God glory and make God proud is what you should do with your body.
So say to yourself, “I am of royal blood. I am a Prince/Princess and I live as one today and henceforth. Through my life and even in my body, I will make Jesus known. I will make Him proud.”
In conclusion, all you have seen about yourself are simply from the Bible and I believe they have helped to shape our thinking, and you no longer feel less about yourself. I believe you are not thinking too highly of yourself either. You are a child of God. You are an overcomer. You are the temple of God.
The best way to know who God says you are is to study His word. So, next time you are studying the word, study with an open heart. Trust the Holy Spirit to interpret the Word to you. Get a book and put down all you discover about yourself in writing. I have only mentioned three here. There are lots more you can know about who God says you are. I call you blessed and I love you.
