We all have our strengths and weaknesses. Most great and influential persons have their strengths in the ability to control their emotions. Yes, we are not inanimate objects and that is the more reason we should learn to manage our emotions. The rate at which we grow and develop has a lot to do with how well we are able to manage our emotions. The way we express our emotions can either build or mar us. For the purpose of this writing, I will concentrate on an emotion that is common to man and one of the most destructive emotions common to mankind which is ANGER. What can I do to  manage your anger? How can I control my short temper? Why should you manage your temper?  How do I control my anger outburst? How to manage your anger?

I think I have to let you know how much damage anger can cost you. So you can be more serious about getting rid of it. Why should I manage my anger? Why should you manage your anger

  • Anger Can Lead to Destruction:

A not well controlled anger can destroy that which has been built for years in a second. An angry person demonstrates temporary madness and no one wants to be associated with a mad person.  An angry person can do and undo without thinking twice. Several relationships have been destroyed because of anger. Some people have died as a result of anger. Several homes have been destroyed because of anger. Some children are wandering on the streets as a result of anger. Several people have destroyed all they have ever worked for because of anger. One can lose something precious as a result of anger (possessions, jobs, blessings, friends, helpers, etc.). Cain in Genesis 4:6-8 because he was angry decided to kill his brother Abel.

  • Anger Can Make One Emotionally Unstable:

Everyone wants to be in a right state of mind but if bitterness and resentment is harbored in the heart I wonder if this will be possible at all. The person you are angry with may not even be aware. You will just be punishing yourself. An angry person’s thinking is uncoordinated and unproductive. An angry person also suffers loss of concentration and I do not think you want to be in these shoes. You should not aim to be healthy physically alone but also emotionally. One does not have to have a wound or cut on any part of one’s body to be sick, else there will not be psychiatric patients. To be healthy emotionally, learn to manage your anger and you know what? Anger may not affect only the person who expresses it, it may injure the emotions of the recipients.

  • Anger Can Affect One Healthwise:

Angry people tend to get tired easily. Most of them suffer from severe headache, high blood pressure, ulcer, aging face and skin, loss of memory, etc. Learn to control your anger because your health is very important and I do not think anyone will want to die untimely as a result of resentment.

  • Anger Has Spiritual Effects:

Anyone having resentment in his or her heart will not be properly tuned to hear from God. Praying and studying God’s word will become difficult.

Genesis 4:16 NIV says, “So Cain went out from the Lord’s presence and lived in the land of Nod, east of Eden.”

Therefore, uncontrolled anger can really cost us our relationship with God. We can lose the blessings God has for us through anger. Uncontrolled anger will not produce the righteousness that God desires and may cause people to question our Christianity.

  • Believe That You Can Overcome and Control Your Anger:

Matthew 19:26 Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

Some people move around with the bottled feelings that anger is their own flaws. So they got nothing to do about it. Who told you that lie? You can manage your anger!

“Oh no! My father battled with anger too. It runs in our lineage!” No, don’t settle with that. Believe you are no more slave to anger.


  • Know That Not Everything is Worth Getting Angry Over:

We should not get angry over somethings, not because they are not painful but because you can do the same mistakenly. Some people may get angry because a drink got spilled on their beautiful dress. The fact is that it can happen to anyone. Don’t be angry over another person’s success too. I think you should know you do not need it! You are of greater worth. You are priceless. Nobody should make you feel less and do not make yourself feel less too. You are unique.

  • Trust God to Help You Control Your Anger:

Every time you have a reason to get angry, submit yourself to the Holy Spirit for self-control. You cannot do it alone.

The Bible says in James 4:7 NIV, “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

  • Be Prepared to be Offended, Be Prepared to Forgive:

People will sometimes do things to annoy you so, be prepared to forgive. The fact is that we are all different and we cannot do things the same way. So, when people do things or say things you do not like, find a place in your heart to forgive them. Forgive your offenders even before they plead for forgiveness. It will go a long way to help you.

  • Exercise Patience:

The Bible says in Proverbs 14:29 NIV, “Whoever is patient has great understanding, but one who is quick-tempered displays folly.”

Sometimes, we get furious on things that are not. This is so because we weren’t patient enough to find out. We concluded, on our own. Be patient, be slow to anger.

  • Do not Bottle Up Your Feelings:

You can tell someone especially your offender how you feel for reconciliation and not retaliation. Do not do this to prove you are right. You cannot always be right. Do this so that peace can reign.

  • Pray about It:

Matthew 7:7 NIV says, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.”

Ask God to help you control your anger and He will surely help and perhaps you are finding it difficult to forgive someone, you can take it to God in prayers to give you the grace to forgive.

In conclusion, controlling one’s anger might be a bit difficult but with God you will overcome. He cares so much about you to leave you to yourself. I hope you have known why it is important to control your anger and how to control your anger. Put the above listed points to practice and you will end up smiling by God’s grace.
